Princesses Duleep Singh

Princesses Catherine and Bamba Duleep Singh were the two eldest daughters of Maharajah Duleep Singh of Punjab who was exiled to Britain as a young boy in 1854.

 

Princesses Catherine and Bamba Duleep Singh were the two eldest daughters of Maharajah Duleep Singh of Punjab who was exiled to Britain as a young boy in 1854 who became a ward of Queen Victoria. His six children became the godchildren of Queen Victoria and she insisted that all the Maharajah’s children be given the best of an English education and was instrumental in Catherine and Bamba studying at Oxford. Catherine and Bamba Duleep Singh studied at Somerville College in 1890. They were actively involved in the suffragette movement, assisting Jews escape Nazi Germany, founding a Norfolk museum and serving as patrons to numerous English establishments.
