In India's Image - Introduction
Indian-inspired architecture has been an integral part of our landscape for over 200 years, yet stories behind many of these monuments remain largely unknown.
This National Lottery Heritage Fund project has enabled Arts Asia to work with volunteers,
community groups and schools to research Western interpretation of borrowed architectural styles from India as seen across the South East of England.
Through site visits and archival research we have uncovered stories associated with their construction, design and patronage. As a result of this work we have developed an exhibition which includes a dramatised film of the story of The Maharajah’s Well in Stoke Row, artwork by local schools, interviews and curated
displays of relevant objects from Reading Museum’s collections.
